Vlotho Sauerfett SF10 Acid Fatliquor is a product used to soften suede and nubuck. It is also used in the textile industry as a softener and finishing agent to give a soft handle to cellulose, polyamide, and polyester fibers.

Usage

Product Preparation

Make sure the suede item (shoes, clothing, accessories) is dry. If it’s damp, let it dry naturally away from heat sources. Clean the surface from dust and dirt using a soft suede brush or a special rubber sponge. Use gentle strokes to avoid damaging the nap.

Testing the Product

Before using the acid fatliquor, test it on a small inconspicuous area of the suede (such as inside the shoe or on a hem). This will help ensure the formula won’t change the color or texture of the material.

Applying the Product

Undiluted When the item cannot be soaked Apply evenly to the suede using a stiff brush (e.g., a toothbrush). Rub the product in until the nap becomes flexible. Pay special attention to dry, rough, or soiled areas. Allow the product to absorb into the suede, usually 2-3 hours. The acidic components soften the material and remove dirt, while the fat base restores elasticity and protective properties. Avoid direct sunlight and heaters to prevent the suede from stiffening. Lift the suede nap with a brush to restore the velvety appearance. Soaking In case of failed washing or cleaning with strong alkaline agents, soaking is recommended Soak for several hours, for example overnight. Dilute the product with water at a 1:10 ratio Soak the item, then let it dry. Perform light cleaning with a suede and nubuck cleaner such as Vlotho Velverreiniger Drying: Let the item dry at room temperature in a well-ventilated area or under a fan. Preparation for Dyeing Vlotho SF10 positively affects the dyeing process of suede, velour, or nubuck. It enhances color brightness, improves paint distribution, facilitates brushing, and consequently improves paint absorption. For dyeing, we recommend using Vlotho Tiefen or Vlotho Borgo, Vlotho Anilinfarbe paints When used as a preparatory treatment for dyeing, dilute 1:10, apply to the item. Let it dry a bit, brush, and then you can start dyeing. You may start dyeing before it is completely dry. Maintenance Use It can be used as a regular refresher for color and softening of suede, nubuck, and velour. It tends to lighten color unlike classic fatliquors. It makes the color brighter and the leather softer and silkier to the touch. Dilute 1:5 with water or with Vlotho Velverreiniger cleaner. Apply to the item with a sponge or brush. Let dry and brush.

Vlotho SF10 has the following properties: · a white liquid with a mildly acidic reaction; · density around 1 g/cm³; · easily soluble in cold water; · stable in hard water; · does not reduce the capillarity of treated items; · gives items a soft, fluffy handle; · resistant to acids, alkalis, and electrolytes at concentrations used in finishing; · compatible with most anionic, nonionic, and cationic finishing and impregnation agents; · can be used in crease-resistant finishing. The product is recommended for the following refining processes: final softening, bleaching, dyeing, pigment printing, optical brightening, crease-resistant finishing, impregnation. Vlotho SF10 can be applied by stripping, brushing, or spraying. Due to its low foaming and solution stability, it can be used in circulation equipment. For synthetic fiber materials, brushing and spraying methods are recommended. Prior to use, compatibility tests with the treated material are recommended.
