Product Description

Vlotho Lippe: Impregnation for Protecting Leather and Textile from Water, Oil, and Dirt

Leather and textiles are materials frequently exposed to various contaminants such as water, oil, dirt, dust, and more. These contaminants can damage the appearance, quality, and durability of leather and textile products, as well as cause discomfort when worn or used. Therefore, to protect leather and textiles from water, oil, and dirt, special impregnations are necessary that create a thin layer on the material's surface, repelling contaminants and preventing them from penetrating inside.

Vlotho Lippe is an impregnation based on fluorocarbon resin, which is highly effective and durable in protecting leather and textiles from water, oil, and dirt. In this article, we will explain how Vlotho Lippe works, how to apply it, and the benefits it provides.

How does Vlotho Lippe work?

Vlotho Lippe is a liquid, mildly milky emulsion consisting of fluorocarbon resin and purified water. Fluorocarbon resin is a synthetic polymer containing fluorine and carbon atoms in its structure. Fluorine atoms have very low surface energy, meaning they weakly bond with other molecules. Therefore, when fluorocarbon resin is applied to the surface of leather or textiles, it creates a thin layer that repels water, oil, and dirt, preventing them from penetrating the material.

Vlotho Lippe has a slightly cationic nature, meaning it carries a positive charge that attracts negatively charged particles such as cellulose or synthetic fibers. This ensures good adhesion of the impregnation to the material, increasing its strength and wear resistance.

To enhance the protective effect of the impregnation, a crosslinker for fluorocarbon resins, Vlotho Lippe FX, is added. This acts as a catalyst for the chemical reaction between the fluorocarbon resin and the material. The crosslinker helps create a denser and more durable impregnation layer that won't wash off during washing or dry cleaning.

How to apply Vlotho Lippe?

Vlotho Lippe is used for durable water, oil, and dirt repellent finishing of leather, textiles made from cellulose and synthetic fibers, as well as their blends. The impregnation is suitable for various types of products such as clothing, footwear, bags, covers, curtains, furniture, and more. The impregnation can be applied by different methods depending on the type, size, and shape of the material. The most common application methods are sponge, spray gun, airbrush, or soaking.

Vlotho Lippe contains no solvents, is non-flammable, and can be diluted in any ratio with cold softened water. However, the impregnation is sensitive to alkalis and hardness compounds, so the material and equipment must be thoroughly prepared before use. Residues of chemicals, sizings, oils, softeners, alkalis, wetting agents, and detergents should be removed by proper washing and rinsing. It is also essential to work with clean equipment and tools to avoid contamination of the impregnation and material.

To apply Vlotho Lippe to the material, mix it with the crosslinker Vlotho Lippe FX at 1-5% of the total impregnation volume. Then evenly distribute the mixture over the entire surface of the material using the selected method. After application, dry the material in a hot dryer at 140°C for 2-3 minutes. At lower temperatures, drying time can be extended. When using a hot air gun, try to evenly heat all areas of the material. If drying at room temperature, allow 1-2 days for the self-crosslinking process to complete.

What are the advantages of Vlotho Lippe?

Vlotho Lippe offers several benefits for leather and textiles, including:
  • Excellent water and oil repellency that protects materials from stains, moisture, and dirt, making cleaning and maintenance easier.

Resistance to washing and dry cleaning, preserving the protective effect even after multiple cleaning cycles.

No impact on color, texture, or breathability of the material, and it does not cause allergies or skin irritation.

    Environmentally friendly and safe
